Swimsuit Season is an ongoing project that invites women-identifying individuals to be photographed in their favorite swimsuits, surrounded by what brings them joy. Often seen as the most body-revealing garment, the swimsuit becomes a symbol of vulnerability, self-acceptance, and quiet defiance. Each session is an open invitation to arrive “as you are,” without pressure to pose, perform, or prepare.
The photographs—marked by body hair, skin texture, and unfiltered presence—challenge beauty standards while exploring femininity, self-perception, and online culture. By bringing everyday women into a commercial studio, a space traditionally shaped by the male gaze and consumerism, the project reclaims it as a site of play, awareness, and liberation.
In solidarity, McQuown also wears a swimsuit, turning each session into a shared celebration of presence and the courage to take up space unapologetically.
This project is based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
